Since man has wakened in his world, he learned to rely on natural foods, herbs and other substances for survival. And this had been the condition until 100 years later. With the last century, we seem to have forgotten our medical roots in return for more seemingly favorable results we incur from using patented medicines.

While medicines may have their potency, enough to help us heal from severe conditions or enough to fill in the gaps in our ladder of needs, they should not still replace whole foods. Not only are whole foods substantial in our diets, they also have highly-valued, well-documented healing properties.

Our body, created as a 'machine' adopted to the natural conditions of our environment are so efficient that it requires relatively large amounts of nutrients, minerals, vitamins and other vital substances in order for it to function well. It was also designed so complicatedly that it cannot lengthen bodily functions by using isolated resources. Thus, it must ingest a wide (and full) spectrum of nutrients as we find them in nature.

Single-nutrient supplements are good and they work well enough. Yet, as we have earlier mentioned, the body is designed to take in several nutrients and use them in correlation with another. In simplest term, some nutrients require another nutrient before they are activated. And besides, our body does not only need a single nutrient, say Vitamin C or E or calcium. It has to have a constant supply of complimentary nutrients for proper functioning.

When you want to get the best of both worlds, you can choose to use whole food supplements. Not only would you get specific nutrients from these items, you may also avail of some other compounds including antioxidants, phytonutrients, trace elements, amino acids along with others.

These complex materials cannot be taken into isolated concentrates. Let alone to expect them do the same action inside the body. Being part of a large whole, Vitamin C or any nutrient for that contribute largely to the commulative manipulation of nutrients inside the body. Even if the intake of specific nutrients are considerably large, they cannot perform complete tasks themselves.

With that logic in mind, it would be easier to detect why whole food nutrients work more effectively than with isolated or synthetic supplements. The problem comes only when the intake of such nutrients is less than what the body needs.

Because there is an integration of many elements in a single whole food supplements, the substance may not efficiently deliver the actual needs of the body despite the fact that the content of the whole food supplement is according to the standard needs. It is a common knowledge that the body develops many conditions by which extra elements are needed. While we may be supplied with whole food nutrients of these substances, our body's demand may still exceed the amount of supplementation level.

Thus, in no way should we treat whole food supplements as replacements for regular meals.

In fact, nutritionists say that we must never deprive ourselves with the natural foods even though we use several types of food supplements. Not even whole food supplements.

Alone, they won't be able to provide us anything very substantial. They only help us in acquiring the nutrients our bodies require due to failure of obtaining them in their natural forms.

The bottom line is, nothing still can replace our natural foods. Take supplements and treat them as such.
